Mindfulness in your job search
Mindfulness, the ability to be fully present in the moment is an important thing to practice in your job search.
As a job seeker, you need to be mindful in your job search and work smarter not harder.
To secure the role you want, you must tailor your application to the specific role.
It takes time to tailor your application, the more roles you apply for the less time you have to put forward a great application for the role/s you love. In today's job market if your application is not well thought out and tailored, likely, you won’t get the role you want.
I always recommend researching a business before you apply for the role.
The advert, salary and job title might excite you but do the businesses values align with yours? Does the industry and their mission motivate you? Have you looked at the Glassdoor reviews for the business? How would you be reporting to and how big is the team?
You must be present in your job search and take time to research properly and apply for the roles that excite you and align with your goals and values. This will help set you up for success.
Pay attention during your job search. It's hard to slow down and notice things in a busy world, especially when you’re unemployed and desperately want to secure a new job. But the more you pay attention and thoughtfully and mindfully apply for roles the more likely you are to secure one.
Research tells us that recruiters and hiring managers only take 30 seconds to look at a resume and decide if they will move the job seeker onto the next stage of the hiring process. So put time and effort into the roles you want. You may even want to reach out to companies directly that you want to work for and build relationships with hiring managers to give yourself an added chance of securing a role.
Remember to:
- Slow Down
- Practice Gratitude
- Be Present
- Focus on One Thing at a Time
